Many folks, regardless of age, have made the move to Friendsgiving—inviting friends over for Thanksgiving dinner rather than traveling, especially if your family lives very far away. But if you’re new to Friendsgiving, or hosting for the first time, it can seem as stressful as hosting a traditional Thanksgiving.
We’ve got you covered with some of our favorite ideas and resources.
Need some new recipes? Unsure of what to get?

- Be sure to buy local! Yakima has a wealth of local produce, meats, and more to help you create the most delicious dishes.
- Yakima wine and beer make for great bring-alongs!
Hosting this year?
- Check out these Etsy decor items!
- Try some of Country Living’s gorgeous table ideas.
- Delegate! Don’t try and make everything before everyone arrives—you’d be surprised at how many people love to be part of the action in the kitchen. Even better, ask everyone to bring a side dish or appetizer, as mentioned in the infographic below.
After dinner…
- Have your guests BYOT—bring your own Tupperware. This way leftovers can be doled out amongst guests, and you’re less likely to waste food.
- Ask each guest to clean an area. Two or three people can help clean the kitchen, and a few more can help clear the table. It’s an excellent opportunity to get up and move around after eating such delicious food, and you’re a little less likely to experience that food coma feeling.
